Every year, the Marine Toys for toys unveils a poster to help promote the toy drive for that year. While the last couple years have seen the same design according to the official Toys for Tots website (an effect of the recession?) there are a lot of great designs. Toys for Tots was originally started in 1947 by Major Bill Hendricks, USCR and a group of Marine Reservists in Los Angeles who collected over 5,000 toy donations for local children. Over the years the program has developed into a wonderful way to help needy children all over.

S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program.

2001: Despite the trauma the nation experienced as a result of the September 11th attacks in New York City, Washington, DC and Pennsylvania, the economic downturn and the anthrax scare, the 2001 U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Campaign was the second best in the previous 554 year history of the program. Local campaigns were conducted in 388 communities covering all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. This was the most extensive coverage to date.

In 2003, the DMA Nonprofit Federation named the Foundation the “Outstanding Nonprofit Organization of the Year” for 2003. The Chronicle of Philanthropy ranked the Foundation #341 in the “Philanthropy 400”. Starburst ranked the Foundation website #9 of the “Top 100 Toy Websites”. Reader’s Digest, in the November 2003 edition, named Marine Toys for Tots Foundation “America’s Best Children’s Charity”. In December 2003 edition, Forbes included Marine Toys for Tots Foundation in its “Gold Star List” of charities.

Perhaps plan a party weekend that incorporates all of his favorite things 'one last time' before he ships out. Find a nearby town with a rodeo going on, camp nearby and invite lots of family and friends so they can say good-bye for now.

Active reserve is what you are now. Active reserve is also known as reserve Marines. It just means you are in the reserves and are active as opposed to being in the in-active reserves.

-active duty Marines which are Marines full time
-active reserve Marines which are weekend warriors/part time Marines
-in-active reserve Marines which don't do anything unless recalled.

Those charges will probably keep you out of the Marine Corps too. The military is getting strict on waivers. That's the weight you need to be to ship to boot. I don't know what you weight requirement is to enlist but im 67.5 inches tall and my enlistment weight max was 206 pounds and ship weight is 175 pounds. Don't worry about the physical stuff you'll have a couple months to get in shape. Depends on what your MOS will be, I believe SOI is 9 weeks long. Reserve deployments are the same length as active about 7 months. Its a 6 year active reserve and 2 years inactive contract you'll prob be called once or twice. It could be more. Depends on what its for but most likely a couple months to a year. Its different and dont forget about the 2 weeks in the summer

As a USMC veteran I remember one of my best friends was about your age and at the time I was 23 I am now 28, But anyways to your question. The best thing you could do is this just ask them. I have no idea what the recruiter will say because they are all different. If you get called up it will most likely be a month or two. But it doesn't really matter because you will make good money over in the suck.
Oh yeah don't worry about your weight you will burn in off in boot. I lost 45 pounds back in boot.

Army reserves entering and clearing rooms? The only reserve units that MIGHT have to do this real world would be MPs. Good skill to learn but waste of money. Better off teaching these guys how to sit in a hot Humvee for 9 hours. I suggest putting on all your gear and sit in a sauna.

The lites are actually IFO or identified. the location in question has been a hot bed for far more dramatic sitings then just lights.

For a combat engineer, I'm estimating about 3+ months of training after boot camp. Non-infantry Marines attend Marine Combat Training at a School of Infantry, then go on to their MOS schools.
Reserve units seem to deploy about every 4-5 years or so. It could go down since Marines are out of Iraq. But who knows. Deployments usually last a little under a year. I spent about 4 months training, then 7 months on a deployment, and 1 month worth of leave (which means I was home, but still getting active duty pay)
Typically, if you do one reserve enlistment, you'll deploy once, unless you volunteer or get extended.
In general, you will have plenty of time to sort things out. I knew well in advance (almost a year) that I would be getting deployed. It's not something that's going to come as a surprise. Also, there are lots of military and non-profit organizations that will come to your unit and offer lots of help and support to families who are deploying. Everything from financial affairs to having your family know what to expect, etc.
I'm not to sure of what an engineer company would do during once a month training, but typically weekend training involves classes on things you have learned, in order to keep you fresh. You will probably go out to the field every once in a while to put your skills to work.
I'm an infantry Marine, so we go out to the field a lot. Next weekend I'm doing things like urban patrolling, vehicle check points, room clearing, etc.
With your misdemeanor charge, don't listen to anyone on the internet. Just talk to a recruiter and see what he has to say about it. Waivers aren't easy to come by right now, but it's not impossible. Good luck.
edit – if you do get called up, it will almost certainly NOT be for just a month or two.
